From the depths of the canyon journey to the depths of the Amazon and the largest protected wetlands area in the world which you explore in a luxury expedition vessel. Day 1 USA to Lima

You board your aircraft for the flight to Lima, arriving late in the evening. Upon arrival you are met by your guide and escorted to your hotel which overlooks the ocean in the elegant Miraflores area.

 

Day 2 Exploring Lima and the Barbosa-Stern Art Collection

After breakfast your guide will be waiting to take you on a tour of the city including Lima Cathedral and the Convento de San Francisco. After your tour you will have lunch and then be taken to the home of a private collector with a large collection of pre-Colombian art. You will have a personal tour of the exhibit with one of the owners before returning to your hotel.We have left this evening open so you can try one of the many fine restaurants in Miraflores. Seafood, especially Ceviche is always a good choice.

Day 3 A Kitchen on the Beach

It is often said that a country's culture is expressed in its food and Peru is no exception. Since you are staying on the ocean it is only natural that fish and seafood would be a key part of the cuisine. Today you will spend time with a noted chef who has worked in fine restaurants in the US before returning to her native Peru. You will start with a visit to the local market to select fresh fish and other ingredients for Ceviche, a favorite of Peruvians. After shopping you will head to her beach house where you will learn the techniqie of " cooking" the fish in citric juices augmented by herbs. You will also learn how to make a Pisco Sour another Peruvian tradition. After enjoying lunch at the beach you return to the hotel where the rest of the day is at leisure.B, L
 

Day 4 Lima to Colca via Arequipa

You have the morning to relax before heading to the airport for the flight to Arequipa, one of Lima's other major cities with a strong colonial heritage. Upon arrival you are met by your guide who will give you an overview of the city before heading to your luxury lodge close to the rim of Colca Canyon. Day 5 Where Condors Soar

The Colca Canyon is known as the natural habitat of the majestic Condor with wingspans close to ten feet and known for their elegant and spectacular flights. You will wake early this morning and join a small group of your fellow guests for the ride to the Cruz del Condor. By arriving early you get the chance to see these magnificent birds as they search for prey riding on the morning thermals drafting up from the canyon. After an hour or so you proceed on a hike through a volcanic crater passing by cacti forests until you reacvh the lagoon which is home to many species of bird. You then enjoy a brunch prepared by the hotel staff at a scenic location and then have the choice of returning to the lodge or being dropped off at the Sabancaya ravine for a trek of the area. If you decide on the trek you will be picked up at a later time and returnded to the lodge in time for a relaxing dip in your private plunge pool before dinner.B, L, D
 

Day 6 Enjoying the Diverse Beauty of Nature

Colca Canyon is one of the most beautiful and unusual places in the world and your hotel has a variety of ways for you to experience the area. You can select treks of various lengths and difficulty, try your hand at horseback riding or even take a class on Peruvian cuisine. All activities are included. If you like somethiung a little more sedentary you can visit the hotel's farm and garden or visit a mission that helps the less fortunate. Whetever you choose you will find it rewarding.B, L, D
 

Day 7 From the Canyon to the Amazon

After breakfast you fly to Iquitos the major city in the Amazon region an area of diverse biodiversity. More than 1/3 of all species recorded in the world are found in the Amazon basin, constituting the largest collection of living plant and animal species in the world. Upon arrival you are met by a guide from Delfin who will transport you to the port of Nauta where the Delfin II is waiting for you. Once aboard you have a chance to meet with your limited number of fellow guests before enjoying a gourmet meal in the cozy dining room located near the stern.

Day 8 Belluda Stream and El Dorado River

Dawn and dusk are the best times for nature observation so, powered by coffee and pancakes you set off in skiffs to explore this black water stream where you can spot amazing wildlife including parrots, macaws and monkeys. About noon you return to the boat and as you enjoy lunch you sail to the El Dorado river where you have the opportunity to swim among the grey and pink dolphins as squirrel monkeys play overhead. In the evening after another delightful meal enjoy the Amazon night with a warm breeze and after dinner drinks

Day 9 Rio Pacaya and Lake Atun Poza

Today you will explore the Pacaya River, the heart of the Pacaya- Samiria National Reserve, the largest protected wetlands reserve in the world. You'll go in search of a variety of birds and animals in this rainforest wilderness. You have a chance to cool off in the pristine water before enjoying a light breeze along with lunch. After lunch you explore Lake Atun Poza and black water lagoons linked to the Lake. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner along with live music

Day 10 Yarapa River and Puerto Miguel

Your first visit this morning is to the village of Puerto Miguel where you have the chance to meet the local villagers and learn about their culture traditions and folklore. You return to the ship and while enjoying lunch you sail through the confluence of the Ucayali and Maranon Rivers birthplace of the Amazon River. Dolphins delight in this area. In the early afternoon you arrive back at Nauta where you are transferred to Iquitos for the return flight to Lima. Upon arrival you are met by your guide and escorted to your ocean front hotel

Day 11 A Day for Sightseeing and Shopping

We have left this day open for you to explore the city at your own pace. You may want to revisit some of the neighborhoods in greater detail or visit the exclusive shopping districts. A car and driver are at your disposal to facilitate your adventures. In the evening we will take you to one of our favorite restaurants to enjoy the chef's tasting menu.B, D
 

Day 12 Return to USA

In the morning your guide will be waiting to escort you to the airport and assist your check-in for your flight to the USA which arrives back later in the afternoonB
