Day 1 Depart USA

Your adventure begins as you depart the USA bound for South Africa and arrive in Johannesburg the following afternoon

 

Day 2 Arrival in Johannesburg

Upon arrival in Johannesburg you will be met by our representative and personally escorted to your hotel which is situated within a short distance of the airport. Fairlawns is a delightful property where all rooms are suites identified by individual names Enjoy a fine dinner in the restaurant before turning in for a good night's rest.

Day 3 Kruger and the Sabi Sands Private Reserve

Awaking refreshed, you enjoy breakfast then our representative escorts you back to the airport for the short flight to Mpumalanga, the gateway to Kruger National Park. Your destination is considered to be one of the best areas in the world to view game, especially in the private game reserves that border the Park. By all estimations, Sabi Sands is considered the best and Sabi Sabi one of its most esteemed elements. You will be staying at Selati Lodge because it combines a feeling of the colonial with the luxury of today. As an example, although the nine suites are air-conditioned, lighting is by hurricane lamp to add to the atmosphere. This evening you enjoy superb cuisine on the wooden terrace of the lodge.

Day 4 Game viewing in Sabi Sabi

An early morning cup of coffee brought to your suite indicates that it is time for an early morning game drive. While it does require a 5AM departure it is justified by seeing the dawn rising over the savannah and the animals you have a chance to see. It could be a pride of lions or a herd of elephant. Perhaps even an elusive leopard. You return to the lodge for breakfast and the chance to relax and, like the animals, take a nap in the midday heat. An afternoon drive and an elegant meal completes your day

Day 5 Absorbing the Rhythm of the African Plain

In this, your last day on the plain, you realize that your days on safari, although limited have created a subtle shift in how you look at life and how you break up your individual days. Like the animals you have come to know and admire, you rise to greet the sun, rest in the heat of the day and salute the sun as it dips below the horizon. You have met and shared stories with the few others lucky enough to share your lodge and experiences. This is a day to savor Africa and enjoy your meal under the stars as the nocturnal sounds of the savannah surround you

Day 6 Sabi Sabi and Pretoria

You have time for an early game drive before transferring to the airstrip where you return to Jo'Burg. Upon arrival you head to the nearby town of Pretoria which serves as the official Capital of South Africa. You have a chance to catch the highlights of this charming town before arriving at your hotel. Dinner is at the hotel this evening

Day 7 The Blue Train

This morning you are transferred to the Pretoria station where you board one of the world's most famous trains, The Blue Train. In slightly over a day you enjoy elegant travel as it used to be. Gourmet food, fine wines and unsurpassed service are yours and you drift to sleep to the smooth motion of the train

Day 8 The Blue Train/Cape Town

After breakfast in the dining car you move to the lounge where you pass through the countryside making your way into Cape Town. At midday you arrive at your destination and are transferred to your hotel which is situated in the town of Franschhoek which was originally settled by French Huguenots who came to escape religious persecution and were invited by the Governor to assist in the development of the wine industry. Enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening

Day 9 The French Touch in Winemaking

You have the full day to try out some of the top vintages in and around Franschhoek. Today's tasting expedition will be highlighted by a leisurely and appetizing lunch at La Petite Ferme, itself a boutique winery but noted for its magnificent views of the vineyards and the valley below and a luncheon menu to match the view. After lunch a visit to more vineyards completes the day.

Day 10 A Scenic Tour of Cape Town

After breakfast your guide will take you into Cape Town for a chance to see the highlights of the city including the option of a cable car ascent to the top of Table Mountain. You will have time for some lunch at one of the many fine restaurants at Cape Town's new dining attraction the V & A Waterfront before arriving at your delightful hotel overlooking the ocean. Dinner with an ocean view is set for this evening

Day 11 Return to USA

You have the morning to relax. Perhaps take a walk in the foothills behind the hotel or along the water's edge. After lunch you will be transferred to the airport and assisted with check-in for your return flight to the USA.
