Day 1: Depart USA
You depart on your overnight flight to Budapest, the capital of Hungary. This charming capital is bisected by the Danube River with hills and valleys on the Buda side and the flat, low-lying Pest on the other
Day 2: Welcome to Hungary
Upon arrival in Budapest you are met by your guide and taken on a tour prior to transferring to your hotel. You explore Pest including Heroes’ Square, Vajdahunyad Castle, Andrassy Street, the Opera House, St Stephen’s Basilica and the Parliament building before boarding a boat for a cruise on the Danube to Marguerite Island.
Day 3: Highlights of Buda
Along with Vienna, Budapest served as the joint capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In the morning you visit the Buda side with a visit to the Fisherman’s Bastion, a neo-Romanesque edifice with seven towers built on the medieval walls and offering spectacular views of the city. You then go to the Castle district and a visit to Matthias church, Budapest’s most famous church and dating back to the 13th Century. The afternoon is left open for you to explore the shops on Andrassy Street. In the evening you experience Gypsy music and dinner

Day 4: Esztergom and the Danube Bend
After breakfast you will leave the city for an excursion to Danube Bend, considered one of Hungary’s most beautiful regions. Your first stop with be Esztergom which is the center of the Catholic Church in Hungary. You will have a chance to visit the Basilica before moving on to Visegrad once a royal seat where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful panoramas in the country. After lunch at a local restaurant you drive to Szentendre, a picturesque baroque town noted for its winding streets. The town is noted for its artists and the many museums including the Kovacs Margit Ceramic museum which you will visit before returning to Budapest.

Day 5: Budapest to Bratislava
After breakfast you meet your driver and guide for the drive to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Before there was a Slovakia there was a Czechoslovakia but before that this area was firmly part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. You arrive in Bratislava in midday and have time for some lunch. After your lunch you are free to explore Bratislava on your own. Big enough to be cosmopolitan but small enough to be charming, the city has excellent museums, good shopping and sidewalk cafes for people watching. Enjoy your afternoon

Day 6: A Relaxing Day in Town
After breakfast you visit the old town and Bratislava Castle which was originally a Roman frontier post from the 1st through the 5th Century A.D. After your tour you are free to explore Bratislava on your own.

Day 7: Bratislava to Prague
Today your guide will be waiting to take you west to Prague, the lively and fun-filled capital of the Czech Republic and one of the first cities to throw off the chains of the Soviet Union. Like Rome, Prague is built on seven hills along the banks of the River Vltava. The Czech Republic is made up of the provinces of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. You will arrive in Prague in the mid-afternoon having stopped for lunch along the way. Prague is a great town for restaurants and we will have suggestions to make to make sure you are welcome.

Day 8: Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge
Your first stop today will be Prague Castle, symbol of the Czech nation and offering wonderful views of the city. Below the castle is Mala Strana or ‘”lesser town” which, despite its name has splendid buildings, Baroque palaces and gardens. It is also home to many Embassies. As part of your morning tour you will see the famous Charles Bridge, 600 years old and made up of Gothic Towers and Baroque statues.

Day 9: Old Town and the Astronomical Clock
After breakfast you meet you guide for a tour of old town. Life in this area revolves around the Old Town Square. Here you can find the old town hall with its astronomical clock, St. Nicolas Church, Tyn Church and the Charles University. Of special interest is the old Jewish town with its well-preserved Jewish cemetery, synagogues and museums. We will provide recommendations on some good places to return to for dinner or just drinks. In the evening enjoy a farewell dinner in Wenceslas Square a combination of Times Square and the Champs Elysees

Day 10: Return to USA
After breakfast you are transferred to the airport for the return flight to the USA arriving back the same afternoon
