Day 1: Depart USA
In the evening you board your overnight flight to Santiago and the beginning of your private tour of Chile and Argentina.
Day 2: Welcome to Santiago
You arrive in Santiago and are met by one of our drivers who will take you to your boutique hotel where the rest of the day is at leisure. Santiago reminds many people of California since it has mountains surrounding the city and the Pacific Ocean is a short drive away so you can ski and surf in the same day ( if you really wanted to). It also has extensive vineyards within driving distance.
Day 3: Santiago 101
Today, your guide is going to give you an overview of the city from its historical sites to the “of the moment” neighborhoods. Start on the main street, Alameda Bernardo O’Higgins who led the independence movement from Spain. Plaza de Armas dates back to Spanish times and is anchored by the Metropolitan Cathedral. You will visit museums focused on pre-Columbian artifacts and artworks while the Bellas Artes Museum offers more contemporary works. You will have lunch at Restaurant Giratorio which offers dramatic views of the mountains and even all the way to the sea. Your afternoon starts with a visit to La Chascona, former home of Nobel Laureate Pablo Neruda. You visit the cultural and artistic neighborhood of Bellavista before taking a cable car to the top of San Cristobal Hill. Your final visit will be to the Providencia neighborhood with its top restaurants, elegant shops and modern high-rise buildings.

Day 4: The Vineyards of the Maipo Valley
Today you will leave the city and head south to the Maipo Valley. Your first stop will be Santa Rita winery which is a state of the art winery. It also has a history however with some buildings dating back to the 18th Century. You will get a chance to tour the vineyards and taste a variety of vintages with a cellar master. You will then visit the Cousino Macul Winery where you have lunch. You will get a history of the estate including a visit to the family wine cellar built by French architects in 1872. It goes 18 feet underground and has vintages dating back to the 1920’s. You will sample several vintages before being driven back to the city.

Day 5: Santiago to Puerto Varas
After breakfast you have some free time in the morning to explore on your own or do some shopping. In the afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for a flight to Puerto Varas in the Chilean Lake district. Upon arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel.

Day 6: A Scenic and Entertaining Journey to Argentina
Today you will be traveling to Argentina but instead of taking a plane or even driving you will enjoy an intermodal adventure involving land and lakes. Your experience starts as you are picked up at the hotel and driven to the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. The road along the way offers spectacular views of the surrounding volcanoes and quaint houses. You will stop to admire the majestic Petrohue Falls and then continue to Todas Los Santo Lake where you will board a catamaran for the first of your lake cruises. You disembark at the town of Peulla where you have some time for lunch. (Don’t be concerned about your luggage. It travels with you but you don’t see it until you arrive at your destination. You then board a dedicated motorcoach to Puerto Frias which is in Argentina. You clear customs and board another catamaran to navigate the turquoise waters and disembark in Puerto Alegre. One more motorcoach ride will bring you to Puerto Blest where you board a final catamaran for a cruise across Nahuel Huapi Lake to Puerto Panuelo where your car will be waiting. Your luggage will be loaded and you are off to an exclusive Relais et Chateaux lodge where a gourmet dinner, your first in Argentina, awaits you.

Day 7: Alpine Activities at Las Balsas
In addition to fine food, your hotel is also noted for its lake views, superior services and a variety of optional activities. Since you have a full day you may want to consider a hike on many of the scenic trails. You may also opt to go fishing on the lake or you can take a scenic cruise on the lake. All these activities and the fresh air will prepare you another gourmet meal.

Day 8: Bariloche to Buenos Aires
You have this morning to take another scenic hike along a different trail. You will then be transferred to Bariloche where you board a flight to the city located on the River Plate, Buenos Aires. You will be met and taken to your deluxe hotel. We will be happy to provide a list of recommended restaurants close to your hotel or, if further way, provide transfers as well as reservations.

Day 9: Sightseeing by Day…Tango by Night
Buenos Aires is an elegant and cosmopolitan city with European flavor and a friendly atmosphere. You will get to see quite a bit of it today accompanied by your personal guide. You will start with the monumental highlights like the main square, Plaza de Mayo with its neo-classical Cathedral, colonial town hall and the Presidential Palace, the "Casa Rosada" which Juan and Eva Peron once inhabited. You then continue to the old neighborhood of San Telmo with its narrow cobblestone streets; La Boca with is multicolor tin houses, the elegant Barrio Norte neighborhood, and Palermo with its wonderful parks and gardens, monuments and magnificent mansions. You have the afternoon to explore on your own. In the evening you will enjoy an unparalleled tango show dating back 100 years. You will be picked up at you hotel and taken to the venue where you enjoy dinner with wine. Around 10:30PM, the performance begins in a vivid tribute to the tango with dancers, singers and an orchestra. Around midnight you will be returned to your hotel.

Day 10: A Day with the Gauchos
In the morning you will be picked up and taken out to the pampas which surrounds Buenos Aires. It is made up of many large farms, one of which you will visit. You will be welcomed with empanadas and wine before a tour of the museum chronicling the life of the gaucho. You will have the chance to ride one of the horses or ride in a wagon. You will enjoy a barbecue (asado) with wine followed by a show. In the afternoon you return to your hotel, collect your luggage and transfer to the airport for a late evening flight to the USA.

Day 11: Arrival in USA
You arrive back in the USA in the morning.
In the evening you board your overnight flight to Santiago and the beginning of your private tour of Chile and Argentina.
