Day 1: Depart USA

This evening your aircraft will be waiting to take you to Edinburgh to begin your Elegant Scottish Holiday.

Day 2:  Welcome to Edinburgh

When your plane arrives in Edinburgh, you will be met by one of our drivers and taken to your hotel to freshen up. In the afternoon you guide will take you on a walk along the Royal mile and Princes Street before taking you outside the city to Rosslyn Chapel which was featured in the conclusion of The DaVinci Code, book and movie. Tour the chapel, built by the Knights Templar before returning to the city.

Day 3: Ancient and Royal Edinburgh

After breakfast you meet your guide for a private tour of Royal Edinburgh. You will start with a tour of Edinburgh Castle which you are able to enter without standing in line. Tour this iconic castle and its ramparts which your guide will use to point out the various points on interest in the city. You will then precede to Holyrood Palace the Queens’s official residence in Scotland. You will tour the state rooms with your guide and visit the state apartments once occupied by Mary Queen of Scots. You will then drive to the town of Leith located on the Firth of Forth which has become a mixture of art galleries, boutiques and restaurants. You have lunch at one of the restaurants and then board the Royal Yacht Britannia which was used by the Royal Family for state visits around the world. There is a Rolls Royce on board used for land visits. After a tour of the ship you return to Edinburgh.

Day 4: St. Andrews and the Villages of Coastal Fife

In the morning you will be picked up at your hotel and driven into the County of Fife. You will be visiting the Town of St. Andrews which is famous for several reasons. First the ruins of its Abbey show the origins of Christianity in Scotland, second St. Andrews University is the third oldest University in Britain after Oxford and Cambridge. It is also the school where William and Kate studied and met. Last but not least, it is the home of Golf with three courses of which the Old Course is the most famous. You will spend time exploring the town including the beach where the opening and closing of the movie “Chariots of Fire’ was filmed. You will then visit an area known as the East Neuk of Fife. This is a collection of quaint fishing villages located on the Firth of Forth. They have charming names like Crail, Pittenweem and Anstruther which is renowned for its fish and chips sold through a variety of shops. A great place to eat before returning to the city.

Day 5: Shopping and the Whiskey Experience

Now you are more familiar with the city we have left some free time for you to visit some of the art galleries in the city. You can also shop on Princes Street for cashmere, kilts, and a variety of other items. In the late afternoon you will be transferred to The Whiskey Experience” where you get a complete immersion in the creation of whiskey both single malts and blends. You will taste several types of whiskey with an expert guide. You then proceed to the restaurant where you enjoy a three course meal with each course being made up of three small plates. Haggis and smoked Salmon will probably be on the menus although it does change daily. You enjoy a dram of whiskey along with your dessert and then return to the hotel.

Day 6: From Edinburgh to Auchterarder

In the late morning you will be driven to Auchterarder and check in to the iconic Gleneagles Hotel celebrating 100 years of golf. In the afternoon you can familiarize yourself with the various elements that make up the resort including the spa and indoor pool. Tonight enjoy casual dining at The Dormy offering grills and fresh pizza.

Days 7-9: A diverse choice of pursuits

You have three full days to select from any of the activities offered to guests. You can play a round of golf at one of the three courses or you can visit the equestrian school and learn the techniques of carriage driving or just hack through the state. Try your hand at falconry of fly fishing of learn to work with a gun dog for your next shooting party invitation. Archery, Tennis, cycling and off-road driving are other options. One evening you will eat at The Birnam Brasserie for true Parisian Bistro cooking, another evening The Strathearn offers fine dining in a prestigious setting. On your last evening you can dine at Restaurant Andrew Fairlie with its 2 Michelin stars.

Day 10: Return to USA

After breakfast you meet your driver and are taken to Edinburgh airport and your return to the USA arriving back the same afternoon.
