Day 3: Introduction to Munich
Since Munich was once the capital of the Kingdom of Bavaria, the city has numerous boulevards and palaces, many of which were restored or rebuilt after World War II. It is also the home of major companies like Siemens and BMW. The city is probably most famous for its beer halls and, in the summer, beer gardens especially at Oktoberfest. In the morning, you have an orientation tour of the city including the famous Glockenspiel in the Marienplatz, the centre of the city. After lunch, the afternoon is at leisure. This evening enjoy lively music, good food and great beer.

Day 4: Lunch with a View
After breakfast you will meet your guide who will take you into the Bavarian Alps for some spectacular scenery. You will be going to Garmisch-Partenkirchen which were, for over 1,000 years, two separate towns but were amalgamated by Nazi Germany in 1935 to provide the support base for the 1936 Winter Olympics. Even today the resort is a major winter sports centre but is equally impressive in the non-winter months. After a tour of the area, you take a cable car to the top of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. When at the summit you have a chance to enjoy the stunning views as you have lunch. It is not often that you can dine and view Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy from your table. After lunch you continue on to your superb alpine hotel located on the edge of the Murnauer Moos nature preserve. After settling into your room with spectacular views from the balcony, you descend to the dining room for inspired German and International Cuisine.

Day 5: The Chef’s Secrets
This morning you will spend the morning learning the cooking techniques of your hotel’s cooking staff; this will include hands on training and the chance to watch the chef and crew as they prepare the luncheon menus which you also get the chance to enjoy. In the afternoon you can burn some calories by taking a walk in the nature preserve or renting a mountain bike and hitting the trails. This evening an intimate dinner at Hofmann’s restaurant.

Day 6: The Castles of Bavaria
Today you will meet with your guide to visit three of the castles built by Bavaria’s King Ludwig, reputed to be mad, but a prolific builder, regardless. The first visit will be to Linderhof Castle. While relatively small by Ludwig’s standards it is surrounded by magnificent gardens pools, waterfalls and an ornamental Lake. You will then proceed to Hohenschwangau which is both another castle and a town. You have lunch in the town and then proceed to the last of the day’s castle, the iconic Neuschwanstein. If it looks familiar it may be because of the many travel posters or, think Cinderella and a man named Walt. After your visits you return to the hotel.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
