Explore: Northern Italy

Customizable Itinerary - 12 Days
Day 1: Depart USA

You board your aircraft for the overnight flight to Milan, the commercial and fashion capital of Italy and gateway to the scenic splendors of Northern Italy.

Day 2 Arrival in Milan

Upon arrival in Milan you will be met by one of our drivers and taken to your hotel which is in close proximity to the Duomo and La Scala opera house. The rest of the day is left open. During your stay in Milan we can arrange tickets for La Scala.

Day 3: Highlights of Milan

After breakfast you are met by your guide who will take you on a private tour of the highlights of Milan. You will start at Castello Sforzeco which was built in the 14th Century. With its red brick walls, it reminds some people of the Kremlin. You ten go to Santa Maria delle Grazie church made immortal by DaVinci’s fresco Masterpiece “The Last Supper”. You then visit Santa Maria Nascente which is the Cathedral of Milan also known as the Duomo. You take an elevator to the roof from some attractive views of the Piazza del Duomo which is the main gathering place of the city and lined with sidewalk cafes. Your last visit is to Galleria Vittorio Emmanuelle II which was the first mall. Your guide will leave you to have lunch and do some shopping. Your hotel is within walking distance.

Day 4: Visiting the Borromean Islands

In the morning your driver will be waiting to drive you out of the city to the shores of Lake Maggiore. At the dock you board a boat for a visit to the three islands located in the lake, Isola Bella, Isola Pescador and Isola Madre, all share magnificent scenery but each has its unique elements which you will discover. You have the chance to have lunch on one of the islands before heading back to Milan

Day 5:  The Shores of Lake Como

Your driver will be waiting to drive you to Lake Como and the town of Bellagio. Your hotel is located on the lake and is the only hotel of significance located in Bellagio. Enjoy a dip in the pool or walk along the shore of the lake enjoying the vistas on the other side.

Day 6:  Cruising Lake Como

Today is a day of leisure which gives you the opportunity to take advantage of the boat service between towns along the lakeshore. The boats themselves are charming as are the towns so pick out a few to aim for and enjoy a light lunch in one, a gelato at another

Day 7: Como…Smooth as Silk

Another day to enjoy the beauty that Lake Como has to offer. May we suggest that you visit the town of Como? This will give you the chance to visit the silk centre. Como is the center of the Silk industry and provides entities as diverse as Valentino to the Vatican.

Day 8: Lake Garda and Verona

After breakfast you will head to Verona by a scenic route along the shores of Lake Garda one of the most charming of the pre-Alpine lakes. Because of its mild micro-climate it offers a vast array of flora. On the east side of the lake is a 30 mile route of coves, small bays, villages and castles all enhanced by the profusion of olive trees and other Mediterranean plants. You then depart for Verona noted for its well-preserved Roman amphitheater still used for summer concerts. The other attraction is Via Capello 27 more commonly known as “Juliet’s House”. The house did belong to the Capulet family but the famous balcony was added in the 1920’s.  You will overnight in Verona.

Day 9: Vicenza, Padua and Venice

Today your guide will meet you and take you to Venice. Along the way you will first stop in Vicenza, the birthplace of Andrea Palladio where you can see many examples of what became known as Palladian architecture. Your next stop is Padua which is home to the second oldest university in Italy and the first university in the world to graduate a woman. Your guide will drop you at the parking area in Venice as you board a water taxi for the ride to your hotel.

Day 10: Exploring Classical Venice

Your exploration will begin in St. Mark’s Square as your guide takes you to the Doges Palace where you will learn about the history, art and culture of the Venetian Republic. You cross the Bridge of Sighs to see the old prison before returning to the square and St. Mark’s Church. Thi was originally the Doge’s private chapel but is now the Venetian cathedral. After the tour, the rest of the day is left open for you to explore at your own pace.

Day 11: Islands of the Lagoon 

Your guide will meet you and take you by boat across the lagoon to the island of Murano which is famous for its glass work. You have a chance to try your hand at glass blowing before moving to the island of Burano. You cross a small bridge to a small island which features a vineyard enclosed in walls built in the 15th Century. There is a restaurant on the island where you ca have lunch before returning to Venice

Day 12: Return to USA

After breakfast you will board a water taxi which will take you to Venice airport where you begin your journey back to the USA                                                                                                          Breakfast
