Day 1: Depart USA
Today you begin your adventure in the Ireland. An adventure that combines elements of ‘The Quiet Man’ with ‘ Murder on the Orient Express’ Board your flight bound for Dublin.
Day 2: Arrival in Dublin
After arrival formalities you meet one of our drivers who will take you to your hotel, one of the city’s most historic and elegant properties. You may want to rest for a while but we offer the chance to take a literary tour of Dublin as you follow in the footsteps of Leopold Bloom from James Joyce’ Classic Ulysses.
Day 3: Dublin Old and New
After you have enjoyed a full Irish breakfast, you will be met by your guide for a private tour of Dublin’s many highlights including Trinity College, Grafton Street and many sites related to the Easter uprising that began the independence of Ireland. You will also walk through the elegant squares built during the Georgian period including the townhouse of Oscar Wilde. A stop at the Guinness storehouse will be rewarding and thirst-quenching. In the evening you will dine at the oldest pub in Ireland which opened in the 12th Century. Along with music, a story teller will enthrall you with enchanting stories of folklore and faeries.

Day 4: Catching a train to Cork
You have the morning to explore on your own and perhaps do some shopping on Grafton Street. In the early afternoon you will be transferred to the station where you board the elegant Belmond Grand Hibernian which will be your home for the next six nights. You will be escorted to your chic cabin complete with ensuite bathroom and shower. Enjoy afternoon tea in the lounge as the train makes its way to the University town of Cork. When you arrive in Cork you will be met and taken to Cobh which was called Queenstown when Ireland was British. You will visit the Cobh Heritage Center which describes the Irish exodus during the Potato Famine. Most went to America but others to different parts of the globe including Chile. Queenstown was where the boats from Liverpool would stop to pick the Irish passengers on their way across the Atlantic. It was, in fact, the last port of call of Titanic. Return to the train for your first dinner on board. The train will overnight in Cork.

Day 5: Exploring Cork and Killarney
After breakfast on the train you have a choice of food or whiskey. If you choose food your guide will be taking you to the foodie’s mecca of English Market. Despite its name, it offers the finest of Irish food from vegetables to Lamb, Smoked salmon and outstanding savoury pies. If you choose whiskey you will be taken to the original Jameson’s Distillery. While production has moved elsewhere, all the old kilns are still in place and you will learn the process as well as enjoying a few drams. Regardless of your choice you return to the train. You enjoy lunch as you make your way to Killarney. You stop just outside the town to board Jaunting Cars for a tour around the Muckross estate. You then board a boat for a cruise on one of the Lakes of Killarney. You have some free time in Killarney before boarding the train for dinner followed by entrainment in the lounge car.

Day 6: The Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands
Today you head to Galway enjoying brunch along the way. You have the opportunity to visit a working farm where get a sheep dog demonstration. You then visit the impressive Cliffs of Moher standing up to 700 feet tall they face out to the Atlantic towards America. Below the cliffs and a few miles out are the Aran Islands which are inhabited by Gaelic-speaking people. You can see the islands from the top of the cliffs. As you head to Athlone you sit down to another fine meal in the dining car perhaps followed by a nightcap in the lounge car?

Day 7: A Day in Westport
In the morning you visit the National Museum of Ireland-Country Life. This traces Country living in Ireland from 1850 to 1950. The museum is located in Turlough Park. You will then head to Westport where you have lunch at a local tavern. You then tour 350 year old Westport House offering inspiring views of Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick. You have time for a walk around Westport before boarding the train to enjoy canapes and then dinner.

Day 8: Dublin and Belfast
Your train returns to Dublin where you have the chance to visit the Irish Emigration Museum which provides the other half of the puzzle. You learned of the process the Irish went through to get to the new world and the Emigration museum the impact they had on the countries they fled to. You return to the train for lunch as the train makes its way into Northern Island and its Capital, Belfast. You will be taken to Hillsborough Castle which is the Queen’s official residence when she visits Northern Ireland. You will visit the state rooms and have refreshments in the drawing room before returning to the train. As you have dinner the train will head to Dundalk in County Lough

Day 9: Waterford and Kilkenny
Relax on board as the train heads to Waterford on the South East Coast. Visit the charming town of Kilkenny dominated by Kilkenny Castle which you can visit and admire its art collection. Stop at Butler House the Dower House of the Castle and stroll through the town itself. As you head back to Dublin enjoy an especially grand meal and entertainment for your last night on board and the end of your rail adventure.

Day 10: Return to USA
You have breakfast as you approach the station in Dublin. As you disembark, our driver will be waiting to escort you to the airport for the return flight to the USA.
