Highlights:
Visiting a foreign country with children can be both a challenge and a blessing. Young minds need to be engaged but they also need to be entertained. It is also the parents’ vacation so they too need to enjoy the experience...and that is where we come in.
We expose them to interesting sites but do it in an engaging way. Also adding to your appreciation of Spain as you see the country through their eyes, as well as your own. On this suggested program we combine and alternate historical sites with contemporary amusement parks. We are assuming children of 7 up but can adjust for the younger ones.

Explore: Spain, through young eyes
Customizable Itinerary - 12 Days (from $3,874 per person)
Day 1: Depart USA
This evening the family boards the aircraft for the beginning of the adventure. Children will sleep; parents…not so much.
Day 2: Welcome to Spain
When you land in Barcelona, one of our drivers will be there to take you to your hotel to freshen up. Since the children will be excited we are suggesting a mosaics class aimed at the young which will engage them and give them a sense of accomplishments. Keeping in mind that the Spanish eat late, you can get an early dinner within walking distance of the hotel.
Day 3: The Sacred and Whimsical Sides of Antoni Gaudi
The architecture of Antoni Gaudi is part of the fabric of Barcelona with La Sagrada Familia being his masterpiece. After more than a century it is still unfinished but that which is completed will impress people of all ages. Your guide knows how to describe the unique points of the cathedral to a younger audience and keep them enthralled. Then it is off to Park Guell with whimsical Gaudi structures and fountains where the younger guests can play. A Churro or two with hot chocolate keeps the energy level up.
Breakfast
Day 4: A Day at Port Aventura
In the morning you will be transferred to Port Aventura, one of Europe’s largest theme parks and known for its numerous water and thrill rides including its accelerator attraction (the world’s fastest). There are five separate theme areas plus characters from Sesame Street and lots of overpriced places to eat. Just like America. When everybody is tired out you can head back to the city.
Breakfast
Day 5: An Adventure to Montserrat
The Monastery of Montserrat is hidden between a beautiful mountain range not far outside the city. Your guide will meet you take you to the station to take a train ride through the Catalan countryside. Along the way the guide will share interesting facts, discuss the planned itinerary for the day and get everybody’s input. When you arrive at Montserrat you board a cable car that takes you straight through the mountains. The views are stunning. Your first stop in Montserrat will be the local farmers’ market to enjoy the atmosphere and perhaps pick up some ingredients for a picnic. You then take an easy hike to a viewing point on top of Sant Miguel which gives you a view across the Catalan landscape. Next to the Monastery is a playground and your guide will have a monastery quiz with a prize. There is also ice cream tasting. After visiting the monastery, your guide will take you to a cave that was built to protect from Moorish invaders and not everyone knows where to find it.
Breakfast
Day 6: Barcelona to Valencia
In the morning you will be transferred to the station where you board an express train to Valencia. Upon arrival you will be met and taken on an orientation tour of the city including the warehouse where Las Fallas Papier Mache figures are stored. Your guide will explain. Check in to your hotel. Since this is the home of Paella that might be a good choice for dinner.
Breakfast
Day 7: Learning made Fun
Valencia is home to the City of Arts and Sciences built around several ultra-modern buildings. One building relates to science and, in addition to exhibits, there are interactive classes aimed at all ages. There is a Planetarium and IMAZX theatre, a building focused on the arts and a very large aquarium. Enough activities to keep young minds active for a day especially since the buildings look like something out of a comic book.
Breakfast
Day 8: The place where Paella was invented
Only six miles from Valencia you will find Albufera Natural Park, a Mediterranean wetlands ecosystem with unspoilt dune beaches, forests, rice fields and the largest lake in Europe. Given that rice is grown here and fishermen work the lake here it is not surprising that this is the birthplace of Paella. It is a place of ecological interest with rare species of wading birds and a rich variety of wildlife. You will explore part of the area on bikes and then your guide will take you to the village of El Palmar where everybody gets to work on creating a perfect Paella. After lunch you take a scenic boat ride on the lake before returning to the city. Breakfast and Lunch
Day 9: Valencia to Marbella
In the morning you will be transferred to the station where you catch a train that will take you to the resort town of Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel where everybody can head to the beach or the pool for some fun.
Breakfast and Dinner
Days 10-11: Family Fun on the Costa del Sol
