Day 1: Depart USA
Today you depart the USA to begin your custom France exploration covering all areas of the country.
Day 2: Bienvenue a Paris
You will land in Paris, and after clearing customs, you meet your driver in the arrivals area for the transfer into the city. Our recommended hotel is in the chic opera area close to Rue Fauburg Saint Honoré the location of many of the great French designers and ateliers. Boulevard Haussmann, home to Galeries Lafayette and Printemps is nearby giving you a perfect excuse to explore and walk off the jet lag.
Day 3: The Delights of Paris
In the morning your guide will pick you up at the hotel for a full day tour of the highlights of Paris including the Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Les Invalides, Notre Dame and Place de La Concorde. You will spend time in Montmartre enjoying the views of Paris from the steps of Sacre Coeur Cathedral. A highlight will be lunch at the Eiffel Tower. We will provide the names of recommended restaurants with a focus on those within walking distance of your hotel.

Day 4: The Louvre and the Orsay
After breakfast you will meet your guide in the lobby and be taken to the Louvre where you can admire the I.M. Pi Pyramid which is now part of the entrance. Since it is so large, the guide will show you the major pieces like “The Coronation of Napoleon” by Jean-Louis David, the Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa. You will then walk across the Seine to the Orsay Museum which is located in a converted train station and luxury hotel. Here you will find all the great impressionists and post impressionists including Van Gogh, Manet, Gaugin, Monet and many others. Your guide will give you an overview look at the museum and then you will have as much time as you want to explore on your own.

Day 5: Paris to Normandy
In the morning you will be transferred to the station where you have 1st Class seats reserved to the town of Caen in the heart of Normandy. When you arrive you will meet your driver/guide who will take you to the key areas of the D Day invasion. You will start with a visit to the landing beaches with an emphasis on Omaha Beach which saw the most casualties and was the major landing beach for US Forces. You will also visit Pointe du Hoc where US Army Rangers ascended the cliffs to take out the gun emplacements threatening the landing beaches. You then drive to Bayeux and your hotel.

Day 6: The Bayeux Tapestry, St. Mere Eglise and Colleville-sur-Mer
After breakfast you will visit the Bayeux Tapestry which was created in the 11th Century to celebrate the victory of William the Conqueror over the Saxon King Harold to start the Norman Conquest of England. The Tapestry itself is close to your hotel. After your visit you travel inland to the town of St. Mere Eglise which was the location of a major battle between US and British airborne troops and the German army. You then visit the American Military Cemetery located near the village of Colleville-sur-mer. While located in France, this is American soil deeded in perpetuity to the United States by France in gratitude for the sacrifice of the 26,000 US personnel that perished at D Day or the days following. After a poignant visit you return to Bayeux.

Day 7: Mont St. Michel
This morning your guide will take you along the coast to the Brittany-Normandy border and an island situated in the bay. At low tide the island can be reached over the sand but at high tide it used to be inaccessible but can now be reached by a causeway. The Island is called Mont. St. Michel and includes a monastery which sits at the summit and a quaint village that makes up the surrounding foothills. You will then drive to the historic town of St. Malo and your hotel located in the historic old part of the city. Explore the quaint streets and the port ramparts that helped protect the Corsairs who preyed on English ships returning to England. In the evening you have dinner at your hotel.

Day 8: Treasures of the Brittany Coast
Your guide will be waiting to take you on a scenic tour of the Brittany Coast made up of quiet bays, rugged cliffs and some of the best seafood in the world. Your driver will know where to stop to try some iconic Belon Oysters and lunch could be a “tower” of fresh shellfish to be enjoyed with a crisp, dry white wine. A light meal may be in order this evening.

Day 9: A Drive to the Loire Valley
Today you will leave the Brittany Coast and drive inland to the Loire Valley, once the hunting preserve of the nobility and home to some of the most extravagant Chateaux. You arrive at your hotel which was, at one time a hunting lodge but now an elegant boutique hotel with both a Bistrot and a 2 Michelin starred restaurant on premises. This evening you will dine at the Bistrot.

Day 10: Chenonceau and Chambord
After breakfast you begin your stay in the Chateaux Country with two of the best known Chateaux. The first is Chenonceau which people always remember as being built over a river. Since the 1950’s it has been owned by a family of chocolatiers. You will tour the Chateaux and have the chance to have lunch before heading to your next Chateau. Chambord was built by Francois I as a hunting lodge and is by far the largest of the Chateaux with 440 rooms, 365 fireplaces and a stable accommodating 1,200 horses. Unlike many other properties it is not privately-owned and has limited furnishings. Leonardo Da Vinci designed the spiral staircase. Return to your hotel where you will have the chance to enjoy another dinner at the Bistrot.

Day 11: Three Fairy Tale Chateaux
Start your day with a visit at Chateau Rigny D’usse forever intertwined with the story of Sleeping Beauty. Visit and you will see why. Another spectacular but les famous Chateau is Azay-Le Rideau, one of the last to be built in the grand style. Drive to Villandry and have lunch at La Doulce Terrace which sits at the entrance to Chateau Villandry noted for its gardens. Return to your Chateau where you have the opportunity to enjoy Michelin starred dining.

Day 12: A Scenic drive to Bergerac
Today, your driver will be waiting to take you south. You will enjoy a scenic drive as you arrive in the Dordogne in the area of Bergerac (where Cyrano was from). You will visit some quaint market towns like Sarlat before arriving at your Château where you have the chance to enjoy the spa before dinner. Breakfast and Dinner
Day 13: Driving to Provence
The Romans were the first tourists to discover the beauty of Provence. So much so it was the first territory outside of Italy to be designated as a Province and the name has remained. Today you will leave Bergerac and head to the Rhone River Valley. On the way your driver will stop at Nimes which is famous for its Roman aqueduct called Pont Du Gard and the stadium which is still used for bullfights to this day. You then stop in Arles which was the Western capital of the Roman Empire and also has a well maintained Amphitheater. For a while it was also the home base of Gaugin and Van Gogh and it is here that Van Gogh both cut off part of his ear and painted his iconic series of ‘ sunflowers’ After a visit to Arles you arrive in Avignon and an elegant Auberge on the outskirts of town. Enjoy an alfresco dinner at the Auberge.

Day 14: Exploring Avignon
In the morning, your guide will meet you and take you on a private tour of the town of Avignon with its Rhone River flowing through the centre. You will see the famous “Pont D’Avignon” from the children’s nursey rhyme and the palaces occupied by the Popes’ during the schism from Rome. The town also has many fine dining options in the evening.

Day 15: Chateauneuf du Pape and the Rhone Valley Vineyards
Today you head off for a full day of wine tasting enhanced by lunch and wonderful views. Your wine expert will expose you to some of the main crus in Provence. You start with Chateauneuf du Pape which is renowned for its red wine but lesser known is the white wine which you will also try. You then head to the northern part of the Vaucluse to taste wines from Gigondas and Seguret two hilltop villages producing excellent cru wines. You will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and then have the chance to walk around the village.

Day 16: TGV to the Riviera
In the morning you will be transferred to the TGV station where you board a 1st Class carriage for the trip to Nice. Upon arrival in Nice you will be met by your driver who will take you on an orientation tour covering Monte Carlo, Eze and Cannes. Your hotel is located on Blue Beach so take a dip in the Mediterranean before deciding on a place to eat.

Day 17: A Day on the Riviera
You have a full day to enjoy the Riviera lifestyle. You can spend the day on the beach with a break for an alfresco lunch close to the beach. If you want to can spend the afternoon walking the narrow streets of ‘Old town” with boutiques, quaint squares and great restaurants; Select a good one to return to for dinner.

Day 18: Lyon, cradle of a Culinary Revolution
Today you will catch an express train to Lyon, France’s second largest city and a city that gave us some other greatest names in cooking of the 20th and 21st Centuries. From Fredric Point to Daniel Bouloud, all claimed Lyon as home. Other great names like Troigros and Bocuse are known worldwide. A tasting menu however can cost as much as $550 but in Lyon you can spend 10% of this and still enjoy a delicious lyonnaise meal at the wide variety of restaurants. Let us make some suggestions.

Day 19: Exploring the Beaujolais wine Region
Although historically considered part of the Burgundy wine regions, Beaujolais is now established on its own. It primarily uses the Gamay Noir grapes which are fruitier than the Pinots. Many American think of Beaujolais Nouveau which is not bad if imbibed while young but the more mature Beaujolais –village varieties last well up to ten years. You will have a full day tour of the region covering such established names as Moulin-a-Vent, Fleurie and Cote de Brouilly.

Day 20: Dijon, the Mustard Capital
After breakfast you will be transferred to the station where 1st Class seats will be reserved for a train to Dijon the Capital of Burgundy. In addition to wine it is also noted for its unique blend of mustard ( with wine added naturally) You will visit the Maille store one of the most prestigious purveyors of Mustard where you can have a custom blend created just for you. After a tour of the city you are taken to the countryside to your hotel, a former Abbey. Enjoy dinner in their bistro this evening.

Day 21: The Great Wines of Burgundy
Your guide will be waiting to take you on a route which is hallowed ground for those even remotely interested in wine. While the Cote des Nuits has some up and coming vineyards that we can visit, based on interest and prior arrangements we can arrange special visits to some of the great names such as Corton, Romanee-Conti, La Tache, Clos De Vougeot and Chambertin (along with Gevrey-Chambertin and Batard-Chambertin). Unlike Bordeaux with its larger Chateau estates, labels in Burgundy can come from vineyards of less than five acres so their limited production adds to their allure and price.

Day 22: Beaune, Pommard and Meursault
Today you will be taken to Beaune the centre of Burgundy wines. You will visit the Hotel-Dieu which is an old hospice built in the 15th century in a Burgundian-Flemish style. You will also visit the Museum of wine located in the former mansion of the Dukes of Burgundy. After a chance for lunch you will be transferred to Chateau du Meursault for a private tasting of nine of their wines. The Chateau offers Beaune 1er Cru, Puligny-Montrachet, and Pommard among the vintages. You will sample five reds and four whites. After the tasting you return to the Abbaye. This evening you dine at 1131 (the year the Abbaye was founded) the Michelin starred restaurant along with wine pairing.

Day 23: Burgundy to Alsace
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the station where you will board a TGV train for the train to Strasbourg close to the German border and site of the European Parliament. You have time to relax by the waterfall before an introduction to Alsatian cuisine at the hotel’s noted restaurant.

Day 24: Exploring Strasbourg
Strasbourg is the cultural capital of Alsace. Alsace lies between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine River with Switzerland to the south, Germany to the north and east and the rest of France to the west. The buildings and the cuisine may be more Germanic e.g. Choucroute Garnie, but the love of wine is pure French. You guide will take you on a walking tour of the city highlights including lunch at a restaurant overlooking one of the many rivers that flows through the city.

Day 25: The Best of the Alsace Wine Route
The wine growing areas of Alsace follow a route between Strasbourg and Colmar stretching for about 100 miles. The route meanders through picturesque vineyards and fairy tale villages of cobbled streets, timber-framed houses and medieval church towers. While you will certainly stop and sample a variety of vineyards, the journey will be just as rewarding for those less interested in wine. Lunch will be in a quaint restaurant offering vineyards and mountain views. You will then return to Strasbourg where there are fine restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

You will be transferred to the station for a TGV train directly to CDG Airport where you board your return flight to the USA.

You will be transferred to the station for a TGV train directly to CDG Airport where you board your return flight to the USA.
