Highlights:
The Falkland Islands are located 300 miles east of the Patagonian Coast. The Islands are claimed by both Argentina and Great Britain. The Argentinians call them Islas Malvinas. The dispute was such that the two countries went to war in 1982 with Britain retaining possession, although the legal dispute continues. The islanders speak English and are considered British citizens.
In addition to the curious, the main reason to visit the islands is for the wildlife (especially penguins with over 500,000 breeding pairs). While there are over 200 islands, there are four islands that are connected by local air service. This is for the adventurous nature lover.

Thousands of Gentoo, Rockhoppr and Magellan penguins breed on Pebble Beach each summer. You will observe large congregations of southern sea lions at their haul out rocks. You will stay at what was formerly the farm manager’s house on a farm which is still home to 10,000 sheep.

You will be transferred to the landing strip for a short flight to Sea Lion Island. You will be met and transferred by Land Rover to the nearby lodge. After lunch an orientation drive is scheduled to observe the premier wildlife destination of the Falklands. The island is home to 49 species of visiting or nesting birds, at times, up to five species of penguins. The beaches host the major Elephant Seal breeding population of the Falklands. South American Sea Lions breed beneath the cliffs and Leopard Seals and Fur seals can occasionally be observed. A pod of Orcas patrol the beaches during the Elephant Seal breeding season from September through November. Since the island is only five miles long and a mile wide it is easy to explore.
