Days 5 & 6: The Beauty and Mystery of the High Desert
When you say desert to some people, they think sand and hot. In some places that may be true but the high altitude of the Atacama keeps temperatures bearable and, as you will find out, there is a lot more than sand. As an example, not far from the lodge is an area called Termas de Puritama which is a great place to go after your explorations. Made up of eight interconnected pools of crystal clear water fed by springs and offering 89.6 degree water it will loosen any aches. There are over 50 activities offered focused around treks, horse-riding, mountain climbing and biking. The attraction of the lodge is that you can participate at any level from novice to highly advanced. Treks can take you to altitudes between 8,200 and 14, 763 feet but given your two day stay it is probably better to stay around 9,000 feet. You can do high intensity mountain biking or a more leisurely pace. For example you can cycle from the green of the oasis through the brown of the mountains to the white of the salt flats, all in one journey. We do recommend horse riding on the salt flats even if you are not skilled on a horse. The horses are specially bred and trained to be at home in this environment. In between activities you will enjoy fine dining and the company of fellow adventurers.

Day 7: From the High Desert to Patagonia

Originally the entire building was a refrigerating area where beef, lamb and other foods were stored prior to being loaded on ships to sail to many ports around the world. Wool was also a major export. In the evening you dine at the Asador serving prime meat.
