Day 1: Depart USA
You board your aircraft for the overnight flight to the “Paris of the South”, Buenos Aires, home of the Tango, resting place of Evita, and capital of Argentina.
Day 2: Welcome to Buenos Aires
Upon arrival you are met by your guide and escorted to your car which will take you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax or stroll through the interesting neighborhood. We will be happy to make dinner recommendations.
Day 3: The Best of B.A.
Buenos Aires is an elegant and cosmopolitan city with European flavor and a friendly atmosphere. You will get to see quite a bit of it today accompanied by your personal guide. You will start with the monumental highlights like the main square, Plaza de Mayo with its neo-classical Cathedral, colonial town hall and the Presidential Palace, the “Casa Rosada” which Juan and Eva Peron once inhabited. You then continue to the old neighborhood of San Telmo with its narrow cobblestone streets; La Boca with is multicolor tin houses, the elegant Barrio Norte neighborhood, and Palermo with its wonderful parks and gardens, monuments and magnificent mansions. After a leisurely lunch you have the rest of the afternoon fee for some shopping or a visit to one of the many art galleries. In the evening your guide will be waiting to take you back to San Telmo where you have dinner. After dinner you cross the cobblestone street into the most authentic tango venue in Buenos Aires. Here you will enjoy VIP seating for an authentic Tango performance, the best in the city.

Day 4: A Day on the Pampas
After breakfast you will meet your guide who will take you to your car for a trip to the famous Argentine pampas, home to the gauchos. Your destination is San Antonio de Areco, a “gaucho” town about 80 miles from Buenos Aires. You are taken to a private estancia where a lunch of Argentine barbecue beef has been prepared which you enjoy with fine wines enjoying views of the endless plains. If you are inclined you can ride some of the estancia’s horses or take a ride in a sulky before returning to the city. This will be a large meal so we have left this evening open for you to decide how much you want for dinner.

Day 5: Journey to Patagonia
Today you will travel from one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world to the southernmost point in the Western Hemisphere. A change in venue but not a change in lifestyle since your lodge is the epitome of elegant adventure. You will be transferred to the domestic airport for your flight to Ushuaia, gateway to the Antarctic. You will be transferred to your hotel which sits on a beach overlooking the Beagle Channel. You have the chance to walk the beach, swim in the indoor or outdoor pools or try one of the sessions at the spa before selecting from a variety of restaurants in town or at the hotel.

Day 6: Tierra del Fuego National Park
In the morning you meet your guide for an exploration of Tierra del Fuego National Park where by foot and by vehicle you explore the rugged Patagonian landscape looking for condors, eagles and red foxes. You return to the hotel for a chance to have lunch and have the afternoon to explore the town or do some kayaking.

Day 7: Boarding your Elegant Expedition Vessel
Today you can relax and enjoy the hotel’s amenities or decide to take a trip into Ushuaia for some shopping or sightseeing. In the late afternoon you will be escorted to the dock where you board your elegant expedition ship. After a welcome from the Captain and a welcome cocktail reception you depart for “the uttermost part of the earth”. During the night you traverse the Beagle Channel and cross from Argentina into Chilean territorial waters. The lights of Ushuaia disappear as the ship turns into the narrow Murray Channel between Navarino and Hoste islands.

Day 8: Cape Horn and Wulaia Bay
As daylight returns you will sail through Murray Channel to reach Cape Horn National Park. Cape Horn was discovered in 1616 and is a sheer 1,400 foot rock promontory. It is considered as the dividing line between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and is known as “the end of the earth”. After lunch on board you go ashore in Zodiacs at Wulaia Bay where Charles Darwin landed in 1833 during the voyage of HMS Beagle.

Day 9: Pia and Garibaldi Glaciers
Your ship cruises through several channels overnight and by morning the ship is entering the Pia Fjord and boarding the zodiacs for a shore excursion to Pia glacier. After disembarking, you take a short hike to gain a panoramic view of the immense glacier which extends from the mountaintops down to the sea. If you are more energetic you can take a more difficult walk up a lateral moraine of the old Pia Glacier. Return to the ship where you have lunch as you cruise along the Beagle channel and enter another long fjord and drop anchor near Garibaldi glacier. This time you hike through Magellanic forest to a glacial waterfall, a towering wall of ferns and moss, and spectacular viewpoints looking down on the glacier and fjord.

Day 10: Agostini Sound and Condor Glacier
Early in the morning you will sail through the Cockburn Channel and enter Agostini Sound. From there it is possible to see the glaciers that descend from the middle of the Darwin Mountain Range, some of them reaching the water. You will disembark and enjoy a relaxing walk around a lagoon which was formed by the melting g the Aquila Glacier. In the afternoon you will approach Condor glacier and hopefully see some of the abundant Andean Condors in the Area.

Day 11: Magdalena Island and Punta Arenas
After an overnight cruise through Magdalena Channel and back into the Strait of Magellan you anchor off Magdalena Island which lies about halfway between Tierra del Fuego and the Chilean mainland. Crowned by a distinctive lighthouse the island is inhabited by an immense colony of Magellanic penguins. Early in the morning you go ashore to see the penguins and then return to the ship for breakfast while it sails to Punta Arenas arriving just before noon. You disembark in Punta Arenas and are transferred to the airport for a flight either to Buenos Aires or Santiago to connect with a late evening flight to the USA.

In the early morning you arrive in the USA to connect to your ultimate destination.
