Days 1 & 2 USA- Cambodia
As you board your aircraft you will be heading across the Pacific and crossing the International Date Line. You technically “lose” a day but will gain it back on the return trip. Relax as you anticipate the indulgence you will enjoy on your Luxury Land and Cruise Vacation in Cambodia.
Day 3: Arrival in Siem Reap
You arrive in Cambodia and are met by our representative who will facilitate your customs and immigration formalities. You collect your luggage and are introduced to your guide who will take you to your hotel which is located just outside the city. You will be taken to your villa where you can refresh in your private pool and rest from the trip. For a little more relaxing, visit the Spa Temple for some yoga, a massage and some TLC. Enjoy dinner where the chef works with you to create your meal. If you include rice it came from the paddies around the resort. Now you can get a good night’s sleep.

Day 4: The Iconic Temples of Siem Reap
After breakfast you meet your guide for an early morning visit to Angkor Wat which was built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th Century. Construction is thought to have taken around forty years on intensive labor. The temple is known for the 2,000 Aspara dancers decorating the temple. Today, the temple is prominently displayed on Cambodia’s flag as a symbol of the Khmer People. You will next visit another famous temple, Ta Prohm. This temple has been overgrown by the jungle and has starred in several movies including Indiana Jones, Two Brothers and Lara Croft, Tomb Raider (starring Angelina Jolie). After the morning temple visits you have a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon you visit Angkor Thom, the last capital of The Khmer Empire. It is surrounded by a 24 foot wall creating a perfect square. You enter the city through the South Gate carved with elephants and four giant faces. In the center of the city you will explore Bayon Temple known for its numerous faces looking out in all directions. You will also visit the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. As the day winds down you board a paddle boat on the moat of the temple compound and enjoy sunset at Prasat Chroung Temple. Champagne and canapés’ will be offered as you paddle slowly along the ancient moat. Return to the resort for another custom dinner.

Day 5: “Citadel of the Women” and the Cambodian Countryside
Get an early start with your guide to visit the unique temples of Banteay Srei, which is best viewed in the warm morning light. The so-called “Citadel of the Women” remains the best preserved temple in Cambodia. It displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art as this small temple is noted for its truly remarkable fine bas-reliefs. It is unique in that it is constructed pf pink sandstone which is seen nowhere else in Angkor. Next, you will drive through the countryside around the Western Baray where you can spot water buffalos in swampy ponds, children in school uniforms on their bicycles and the occasional oxcart. Your destination is the Angkor Silk Farm where you can witness the entire process of silk creation from growing and harvesting mulberry as food for the silk worms, the breeding process and the life cycle of the silk worm to the spinning of the silk, the dying process and the creation of beautiful silk weavings on wooden hand looms. You can buy the silk and you can also feed the silkworms if you want. After lunch at a local restaurant you head back to the resort for more spa or pool time. You can also walk through the surrounding fields on the estate. In the evening you will be taken for dinner at a local restaurant followed by classical dancing.

Day 6: Transfer to Tonle Sap Lake
Today you will board your luxury cruise ship for an exploration of the unique culture around the lake. You will be delivered to the departure point where an air-conditioned motorcoach will take you for a scenic 45 minute ride to the dock where you board your 3 story, 5 star home for the next four nights. Check in to your suite with its window wall offering endless panoramas of the Mekong. Enjoy lunch and then explore the ship as you set sail.

Day 7: Prek Toal and Moat Khla
After breakfast you set off by skiff into the 50,000 acre Prek Toal Core Bird Reserve, one of the largest freshwater bodies in Asia and the last refuge in Southeast Asia for large water birds like the spot-billed pelicans, milky stork, black-headed ibis and the elusive masked Finfoot. After lunch back on board you visit the floating village of Moa Khla, accessible only by water, and attend a Buddhist blessing ceremony in this isolated community. Return to the ship with a greater appreciation of 21st Century convenience and comfort.

Day 8: Chhnok Tru and Kampong Chhnang
Today you will explore two remote villages around Tonle Sap Lake. In Chhnok Tru you “slide” into an ice factory and learn from locals what it’s like to live in a town where schools, churches, pagodas and even the karaoke bar and police station all float. As you lunch you cruise to another village, Kampong Chhnang which is also called the “Port of Pottery” because the archeological findings here date back to the 6th Century.

Day 9: Koh Chen and Koh Oknha Tey
This morning you will visit a silversmith village known for its fine craftsmanship. Keep an eye out for their famous silver bowls, regularly chosen by Cambodia’s king as gifts for visiting dignitaries. In the afternoon you set off for the Mekong’s ‘silk islands’ where you can use your newly-acquired expertise in silk making to good advantage as you are free to wander freely among the weaver. Biking is an option if you want to explore deeper into the island.

Day 10: Phnom Penh
As your cruise winds down you have breakfast and then climb on board a motorized tuk-tuk as your guide shows you the major sights of the city including the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda and the National museum of Cambodia, home to the world’s largest collection of Khmer art. Arrive in Phnom Penh where one of our guides will take you to your elegant hotel located on the top floors of one of the city’s newest and highest buildings. Enjoy the views from the Sky Bar built out from the building on the 36th floor. In the evening have dinner in the Brasserie.

Day 11: Tuol Sleng and Choeung Ek
A stay in Cambodia would not be complete without remembering the country’s recent tragic history under the Khmer Rouge. Your guide will take you to the site of Tuol Sleng Prison (S-21) where many Cambodians were questioned and many never seen again. You will also visit Choeung Ek also known as the “Killing Fields” from the book and the movie. Although not a joyful tour, visiting these monuments puts in perspective the modernizing country you have visited; Good vanquishes Evil. In the evening you will be taken to one of the new restaurants springing up in town, many run by ex-patriots (mostly French) but also a growing representation of Cambodian chefs.

Day 12: Return to USA
You will be transferred to the airport to begin your return to the USA, regaining the day you “lost” on the way over.
